TRAINING WITH DOG BARK CONTROL
Before you begin using a dog bark control collar, it is important to determine why your dog is barking in the first place. Addressing the causes behind the barking will greatly reduce problems in training. Since barking is a natural form of communication for our four legged friend, you want to make sure that you are not sending your dog the wrong message. In cases where the dog is barking out of fear, separation anxiety, or aggression a bark control collar could make problems worse.

For those who have a dog that spends a lot of time outdoors, it is quite common for them to bark more as well. Dogs that spend most of their time outside are usually more social and may require a little more attention. Guard dogs and hound dogs are expected to bark, as they were bred to bark with a purpose. Asking a guard dog to never bark is asking a lot, but that does not mean they are not still trainable.

Sometimes the dog is simply trying to tell you that something is wrong or that they are unhappy. If the dig was not an excessive barker before, then there might be something else going on in the dog’s life. If your hours at work have changed, your dog may require some time to adjust. Dogs do not like change and they desire consistency.

Here is a list of possible reasons your dog could be barking:

  • They are hungry.

  • They want to play.

  • Wants to come inside or go outside.

  • The dog could be bored, frustrated, anxious, or simply vocalizing their excitement.

  • For more active breeds of dog, increase play time and building an exercise routine can help.

  • Take the dog on errands with you. Even a quick car ride can provide enough mental stimulation for them to be satisfied with.

  • Be careful not to reward barking by yelling. It may not seem like a reward, but it is giving the dog attention. Instead, ignore the dog when barking and reward them when they are quiet.

  • Determine the triggers that get the dog barking and avoid them. For example: if the dog always barks at the mailman, try putting the dog someplace they can not see the mailman when mail arrives.

After you have explored these possible reasons your dog could be barking and ruled them out, can you then begin using a bark control collar. This device is an excellent training tool to help you on your way to having a well behaved dog. No more waking in the middle of the night to unnecessary barking and your neighbors will thank you.
